    On 27 November, over 100 youth workers from all over Ukraine came together at the UNDP-supported First All-Ukrainian Youth Workers’ Forum in Kharkiv to promote and acknowledge the effective forms of cooperation and networking among youth workers in Ukraine.

  • #UINN Youth Innovations Challenge: teams from Lviv, Kyiv, and Mykolaiv share awards for 15,000 USD Nov 27, 2017

    Twelve teams of young semi-finalists from different regions of Ukraine presented their innovation ideas during the U-Inn Pitching Day, held in Kyiv. They were all participants in the Youth Innovation Challenge U-Inn, encouraging young people to develop innovative initiatives to improve the respect of human rights and strengthening democracy in Ukraine at the local level. An independent jury chose three winners in the categories: Technological innovation, Social script, and Social entrepreneurship. The winners will implement their projects within 3 months with the UNDP support. In March 2018, the implemented projects will be presented at the UInn Youth Innovation Festival.

  • Human Rights in Ukraine: UPR side-event with Civil Society and Ombudsperson Nov 27, 2017

    In November 2017, Ukraine underwent its 3rd Universal Periodic Review of human rights at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. With this occasion, the United Nations Development Program supported a number of civil society organizations and the Ukrainian Ombudsperson in organizing a side-event to discuss the challenges that the country has faced since the 2014 Revolution of Dignity and the onset of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

  • UNDP awards three young directors for their short movies on inspiring entrepreneurs Nov 27, 2017

    UNDP in Ukraine, together with the Molodiya Festival, and with financial support from Poland, organized the contest to tell the stories of entrepreneurs displaced by the conflict in Ukraine who, despite all their economic and political difficulties, have rebuilt and developed their businesses. The winners of the contest were announced at a ceremony in Kyiv on Nov. 24.

    The United Nations Development Programme will present on 24 November 16 video stories showing successful enterprises from the east of the country. The stories feature ordinary people who have managed to start or develop a business, and create new jobs. The stories are motivating, and the business ideas they are implementing are inspiring.

  • A civil society that learns and grows Nov 21, 2017

    The Civil Society Development Forum is a unique national platform for discussion of key standards and practices for civil society organizational development. It promotes a capacity development culture among Ukrainian CSOs. The first Forum took place in 2012, and by 2017 it welcomed more than 1,700 participants. During the 6th Civil Society Development Forum, UNDP held debates and thematic master-classes. Opportunities to influence decision-making in Ukraine were discussed by human rights activists, civil society experts, representatives of the Government and Presidential Administration at the UNDP-facilitated session on "Freedom of Civil Society: A Step Forward or Backwards".

  • Changing journalism education: human rights as values foundation Nov 20, 2017

    Three out of four people in Ukraine say they find this information on TV, and 57% of respondents also acknowledged that TV shapes their view on human rights. Such a dependence on media points to the importance of boosting the understanding of human rights based approaches among media professionals. On 10 November 2017, heads of all Ukrainian journalism institutions of higher education, the Ombudsperson, and human rights activists gathered at the thematic meeting of the Scientific and Methodological Commission on Journalism and Information to discuss the ways and strategies to lead-up human rights in journalism.

  • Ukraine has received 200 recommendations in the UN on how to protect human rights Nov 20, 2017

    Recommendations were provided by delegations from 70 countries, participating in the UN Human Rights Council during an interactive dialogue in Geneva, which was held on November 15. On November 17, they were published by three rapporteur countries on reviewing the human rights situation in Ukraine, which included representatives from the Netherlands, Rwanda and Georgia.

    A Delegation from the Embassy of Japan has visited conflict-affected areas in eastern Ukraine to assess programmes implemented by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the financial support from the Government of Japan.
