    Millions households in Ukraine, particularly living in rural areas, rely on natural resources for their livelihoods. But human activities affect the state of environment in many ways, thus negatively impacting the ecosystems. Three UN Conventions, on Climate Change, Biological Diversity and Desertification address these threats. UNDP is promoting implementation of these conventions at policy level and by enhancing capacities of local Government and spreading knowledge on threats and ways to overcome or prevent them.

  • Ukraine will stop the illegal import of licensed and banned ozone depleting substances May 30, 2016

    Two chromatograph mass spectrometers delivered for Specialized Laboratories of State Fiscal Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and Odesa. Procured by the UNDP Project “Initial Implementation of HCFC Phase Out in the CEIT Region”, this equipment will allow the Custom of Ukraine to detect ozone depleting substances in different forms.

  • Ukraine efforts to restore governance and reconciliation in eastern regions receive additional boost from the EU May 27, 2016

    The European Union grants an additional EUR 10-million financial support in a bid to strengthen the positive developments already achieved to date by UNDP-Ukraine’s programme for the “Restoration of Governance and Reconciliation in Crisis-Affected Communities of Ukraine”. The programme will focus on local government reform, gender-responsive recovery and improved service delivery.

  • UNDP Restored 19 Social Service Facilities for Vulnerable Citizens in Donbas May 17, 2016

    On 30th April, UNDP completed its first project aimed at restoring social infrastructure facilities in the conflict-affected territories of Ukraine. The project team selected 19 social infrastructure facilities to restore and to improve the services provided.

    The main goal of the contest is to spread knowledge about Earth's natural heritage and to develop a caring attitude towards nature and environmental protection. The contest jury representing famous journalists, photographers, environmentalists and UNDP experts will choose 10 best photos in the contest overall and one best picture representing every region of Ukraine.

  • Improved Water Supply for Reviving the Economy of Donbas May 17, 2016

    Under its recovery projects UNDP, has selected 5 water supply facilities to restore and upgrade with support of the Government of Japan. Some of the facilities serve several local communities, others are critical for large populations, like the water pumping station in Semenivka. This critical facility that serves 3 million people at 95% of Donetsk oblast territory was heavily shelled during the fights in 2014. Therefore, its restoration was a top priority for UNDP efforts on securing water supply.
