NGOs wanted to help recovery and human rights protection in Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts

UNDP project “Democratization, Human Rights and Civil Society Development Project” and “Rule of Law” Programme of the International Renaissance Foundation issued a call for proposals for NGOs and charitable foundations to kick-start the recovery and human rights protection in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, in particular on the territories liberated from illegal armed groups. The total budget of the initiative is 1,000,000 Hryvnya.

The organizers are looking for proposals in two main categories, i.e. (1) human rights protection (provision of legal aid, documenting the violations of human rights); and (2) projects aimed at early recovery of the region.

NGOs applying in the first category are expected to provide professional free primary legal aid to citizens with due account of particular local development and local problems in legal area; promote access to justice and protection of vulnerable populations; disseminate legal information and contribute to overcoming legal isolation in the regions.

The second category is for non-profit organizations that will contribute to recovery and reconciliation on post-conflict territories; Support the return and reintegration of internally displaced persons; promote dialogue between various groups and contribute to reconciliation; improve the level of security and re-establish trust to law enforcement agencies, local authorities and local self-government bodies; provide assistance to problem solving at local communities, ensure cooperation with state authorities and local self-government bodies;  contribute to resource mobilization at local level for solving urgent problems of communities.

Preference will be given to the projects where cost-sharing is provided. The cost-sharing contribution may be both financial and in-kind (for example, wages of employees, work of volunteers, office expenses, etc.)

Deadline for submitting project proposals is 5 p.m., 31 August 2014.
