UNDP Procured ‘Pentaksym’ and Hib Vaccines

18 April 2016,  Kiev –  UNDP has finalized the procurement process and signed contracts with two companies - Pharmex Group LLC and M.Biotech Ltd to supply Pentaxim and HIB vaccines. In total, UNDP procured 936, 450 doses of vaccines with a total amount USD 9, 168, 765. The first  medicines are expected to reach Ukraine in the period between June and August.

The Pentaxim vaccine was registered in Sweden in 1997. Now this vaccine is distributed in more than 103 countries, including 26 European Union countries. Moreover, this vaccine is purchased by the governments of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, Norway and others. As of today, more than 100 million doses of vaccines were distributed all over the world.

The M. Biotech Limited is contacted to supply HIB Vaccines, manufactured by Serum Institute of India Private Ltd. (WHO prequalified manufacturer). These vaccines are distributed in 26 countries. At present the HIB is rarely taken as a mono-vaccine as countries have graduated to using Penta vaccine. As a mono vaccine, in 2016 Serum Institute of India Private Ltd. have supplied 172,000 doses of HIB Vaccines to different countries (Argentina, Turkmenistan, Tunisia, Jamaica and Peru). As a component in Penta vaccine, the HIB was supplied in the amount of over 457 million doses to 117 countries. Major supplies of HIB as a component of Penta vaccine has been delivered to Brazil, Egypt, Philippines, Uzbekistan and Peru.

“As of today we have already delivered the first medicines for treatment tuberculosis and orphan disease. Some of the Hemophilia medicines are already at the border and we count on full cooperation of all relevant authorities on going through all applicable producers  smoothly, which will allow us to deliver urgently needed medicines to patients in need ”, said  Janthomas Hiemstra, UNDP Country Director.
