UNDP and Wikipedia launch “Wiki Loves the Earth” photo contest

May 17, 2016

Ukraine is home to some of the richest natural environments and habitats in Europe and at the same time is one of the most heavily polluted countries in the region. It is also one of the least energy efficient countries in the world. Effective management of natural resources and promoting environmental protection are key elements to preserve life-supporting biological systems, improve the quality of life and reduce poverty in Ukraine.

The National School of Journalism, National Shevchenko University and National Ecological Center of Ukraine are among the project’s key partners.

The main goal of the contest is to spread free knowledge about Earth's natural heritage and to develop a caring attitude towards nature and environmental protection. The contest jury representing famous journalists, photographers, environmentalists  and UNDP experts will choose 10 best photos in the contest overall and one best picture representing every region of Ukraine. An awarding ceremony and photo exhibition will be held in Kiev around the Environment protection day.

All the photos submitted to the contest will be licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License that foresees free use, provided there is information about the author and the source.

The participation in the contest is free and open both to professional photographs and amateurs.
