Luhansk Regional Development Agency now operationalNov 23, 2016
The newly-created Luhansk Regional Development Agency has been provided with the necessary office equipment enabling it to start working on the region’s recovery and development.
Severodonetsk, 23 November 2016 - UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine has delivered office equipment, including laptops, internet infrastructure, multimedia projector, multifunction printer scanner machines and other devices to help kick start the operations of the Luhansk Regional Development Agency.
Established once month ago as the implementation arm of the Luhansk Region Development Strategy, the Luhansk Regional Development Agency currently employs 3 staff members with 20 more operational and strategic specialists expected to be further recruited for a variety of positions, ranging from support to newly established amalgamated communities to project development on energy efficiency and alternative fuel.
“The Luhansk State Regional Administration approached UNDP last year with the idea to create an agency that would facilitate the region’s development, in cooperation with the local authorities, civil society, businesses and other stakeholders. We are really please that 12 months later, the Luhansk Regional Development Agency is now ready to get to work” – said Oleksander Stetsenko, UNDP Recovery and Peacebuilding expert and advisor to the Chairman of Luhansk State Regional Administration on International Cooperation and European Integration.
“This equipment will definitely help us work on the region’s development. It’s yet another step in our cooperation with UNDP and I can assure you that we are now getting the best specialists to make the best use of this equipment” – said Mr Rafail Garieiev, the Director of the Luhansk Regional Development Agency.
Following the meeting with the leadership of Luhansk State Regional Administration, UNDP agreed to further support the Regional Development Agency to help the effective implementation of the Luhansk Region Development Strategy.
“UNDP has a track record of good cooperation with the Luhansk State Regional Administration on various issues. For us it is critically important to keep supporting the sustainable development of the region to the benefit of local residents, their future wellbeing and prosperity,” concluded Mrs Solomiya Stakhiv, UNDP Severodonetsk Area Manager.
This office equipment was purchased with the financial support of the Government of Japan.
