UNDP awards three young directors for their short movies on inspiring entrepreneurs

UNDP in Ukraine, together with the Molodiya Festival, and with financial support from Poland, organized the contest to tell the stories of entrepreneurs displaced by the conflict in Ukraine who, despite all their economic and political difficulties, have rebuilt and developed their businesses. The winners of the contest were announced at a ceremony in Kyiv on Nov. 24.

The stories feature ordinary people who have managed to start or develop a business, and create new jobs. The stories are motivating, and the business ideas they are implementing are inspiring.
Ukraine has received 200 recommendations in the UN on how to protect human rights

Recommendations were provided by delegations from 70 countries, participating in the UN Human Rights Council during an interactive dialogue in Geneva, which was held on November 15. On November 17, they were published by three rapporteur countries on reviewing the human rights situation in Ukraine, which included representatives from the Netherlands, Rwanda and Georgia.

Ukrainian directors have completed shooting inspirational videos about entrepreneurs from Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts for the "Big Stories About Small Business" competition, part of the social video advertising festival organized by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine and the Molodiya Festival. Fourteen young directors and their film crews shot 16 short, inspiring videos about the success stories of entrepreneurs who received a grant from UNDP to launch their own businesses in eastern Ukraine.

According to the contest’s rules, filmmakers are to film videos about the success stories of entrepreneurs who won a grant from UNDP to launch or develop a business in eastern Ukraine.
Repaired kindergarten to serve 200 children in Ukraine’s conflict zone

The United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine (UNDP) and the government of Japan have repaired the roof of a kindergarten in the frontline city of Svitlodarsk in Donetsk Oblast. Kindergarten No. 10, “The Rainbow”, was severely damaged by shelling during military hostilities in the winter of 2015. Due to shelling and long-term exploitation, the building’s roof was seriously damaged, which resulted in frequent leaks. Around 70 children attend the kindergarten, which has a staff of 30 employees. The kindergarten has facilities for up to 200 kids.

Repaired Blood Transfusion Station in Mariupol to serve over half a million people

The station, which was repaired by UNDP in Ukraine with financial support from the government of Japan, is a key medical facility covering the entire southern portion of Donetsk Oblast. The station is located in a densely populated residential area of Mariupol, on the territory of City Hospital No. 2. The station collects and processes about 5.5 tons of donated blood annually. It was built in 1995 and due to its long exploitation time required repairs and improvements to its energy efficiency.
