UNDP launches video contest dedicated to entrepreneurs from eastern Ukraine

Aug 1, 2017

Kyiv, 1 August 2017 – UNDP, in partnership with the Molodyia social media festival, has launched a new video contest to encourage internally displaced people and local residents in government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions to take the initiative and start a business of their own.

The contest will highlight and celebrate successes achieved by other members of the conflict-affected population of the Donbas who received small grants to start a business in eastern Ukraine.

Victor Munteanu, the manager of the UNDP’s Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme in eastern Ukraine, said that the UNDP has shown that even in amid the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, it is still possible to start a successful business.

“We have many successful enterprises which we supported in Donetsk and Luhansk regions: small cheese factories, sewing workshops, medical centers, agricultural farms and others”, he says. “They not only provide for their families but also create 3-4 new jobs. Over the past 2 years through its grants programme UNDP has created 1 000 new jobs in the Donbas. With this video contest, we once again want to draw attention of the entire country to the successfully developing SMEs in Ukraine’s east.”

For more details about conditions and the application procedure for the video contest, please visit www.molodiya.com.ua.

The winners will be selected by a jury of experts in autumn. The makes of the best videos will receive financial awards and other prizes. The best videos will be broadcast by the mass media.

The motivation campaign to boost entrepreneurship among conflict-affected populations is being implemented by the UNDP’s Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme, with the financial support of the Government of Poland.
