Alina Girych

Business Development Specialist, United Nations Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme

Alina joined UNDP in January 2020 and since then has been working with programmes that aim to develop micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, business associations, and business organizations. Her responsibilities also include cooperating with regional stakeholders on business issues.

Before joining UNDP, Alina worked for almost four years as Economic Security Specialist with the International Committee of the Red Cross, where she developed projects to provide economic support to people living in the conflict area in eastern Ukraine.

Alina obtained a master’s degree in Management of Foreign Economic Activities from Donetsk State University of Management. She has built on this educational foundation with numerous training courses and internships. In 2018 Alina was selected as a participant in the Professional Fellows Programme, supported by the American Councils for International Education, and had an internship with the non-government organization “Pacific Gateway Center”, Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. On her return to Ukraine, she won a grant to implement the outbound project “Environment and Economic Development” in the summer of 2019.

Alina has also taken professional courses on Business and Management skills from the University of Oxford, in the UK.

Alina is originally from Donetsk, but since 2014 has lived in the government-controlled part of Ukraine. She believes that one day the conflict in the east will stop, and all Ukrainians will be able to live in peace.
