Journalism students from all over Ukraine gathered in Hlibivka in Kyiv Oblast in the last week of August for the second Human Rights Media Festival, which this year focused on how to raise human rights issues and raise topics of social relevance.

Media representatives are invited to the festival’s closing ceremony on Aug. 30 at 10:00, where the festival’s expert trainers and its participants will sum up the results of four-days of workshops and present their work on human rights topics.

During the week of the festival, 100 young professionals from 24 universities across Ukraine studied how to cover such topics as gender equality and non-discrimination, how to combat hate speech in journalism, and how to be an activist standing up for the rights of others. All of the knowledge received during the festival was applied during workshops through visual art – photo reportage, the design of visual materials, and street art.

The event was organised by the Institute of Journalism, the ZMINA: Human Rights Centre CSO, and UNDP in Ukraine. It was aimed at raising the interest of young journalists in the topic of human rights topic, and encouraging in them high ethical standards when they cover issues related to human rights, equality, and non-discrimination.
