We are pleased to announce the winners of the second human rights contest for journalism students. The contest aims to promote high ethical standards and human rights values in journalism education.

The organising committee received more than 170 works, from 267 authors studying at 25 universities and one journalism study club.

The contest was initiated by the Institute of Journalism of the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, the ZMINA Human Rights Centre, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine.

First, a selection panel of the editors of the Zmina.info,  the team of Real Stories Production, and UNDP experts reviewed all the works based on criteria such as professionalism, substance, genre compliance, headline, relevance to the topic of the contest, authenticity, significance and argumentation, language sensitivity, fluency, and persuasiveness.

During the second round, the jury panel of human rights defenders and media experts suggested their top seven stories. All of the points were summed up and the best works were selected.

“The professional level of some works is very high. It was great to see the variety of topics of social relevance covered by the participants. It is worth to mention, that among the most popular topics were the issues of gender equality and combating bullying”, commented a panel member Valeriya Mezentseva, creative director of advertising agency “Krashche”, photographer, member of National Union of Photo Artists of Ukraine, author of social photo projects.

We are happy to announce the best works:
